Housing Priority

Priority for available fall 2022 housing will be given to newly admitted fall 2022 students as well as various continuing student populations. For winter 2023, only newly admitted students for winter term will receive priority. See below for a complete list of priority groups.

We will do our best to house all students in the priority groups, but cannot guarantee housing availability, a specific facility, or a specific room type. In addition to attempting to house students with priority status, we hope to accommodate as many students as possible from the general waitlist but must acknowledge we may not be able to accommodate all interested students.

Eligibility

New students who indicate a preference for university housing when accepting their offer of admission are eligible for housing priority for their admitted term in fall 2022 or winter 2023.

Continuing students are eligible for housing priority if all of the following criteria are met:

  • Continuous residence in UCSC housing during winter 2022 & spring 2022 quarters
  • Affiliation with one of the defined priority groups
  • Active student status and eligible to enroll in spring 2022 academic term

Priority status determined for students who met all of the above criteria on March 24, 2022. Priority status will not be given if a student meets the above criteria after this date.

Room Selection:

Students in a priority group who apply during the application period will be eligible for Room Selection.

  • Students invited to participate can select housing individually or as part of a group with other students who have priority.
    • Students must apply to the same community to form a group!
  • A randomized lottery will be used to determine the order in which students are invited to select apartments/rooms.
  • Eligible students will receive Room Selection Invitation emails in mid-June.
    • Room selection will occur later in June.
    • If you are part of a group, determine who has the earliest appointment time and allow that person to select housing for the group.
    • A student's gender designation in the MyUCSC portal plays a role in determining roommate assignments. In most cases, students are assigned roommates of the same gender.
      • View and update your gender information through my.ucsc.edu
      • Contact your Housing Coordinator if you're planning on having a mixed-gender room before  room selection.

  • Visit Places4Students.com; the rental listing site contains off-campus rentals in the communities surrounding UCSC and roommate profiles of UCSC affiliates looking for off-campus housing. Viewing of rental listings and roommate profiles is restricted to UCSC affiliates, so this is a great resource for all UCSC students!
